Abstract

Immunization is a very important weapon in the prevention and eradication of infectious diseases. The Chilean Health Ministry recommends a basic vaccination schedule adapted to the epidemiological characteristics of the country. Patients suffering from chronic renal disease are often immunosuppressed as a consequence of their disease or their treatment. They therefore form a high risk group for severe infectious complications as well as developing non-optimal protection. This forces strategic changes in the recommended vaccination programme. The purpose of this article is to propose a customized immunization schedule for paedriatric patients with chronic renal failure, those receiving dialysis, transplantation or those with nephrotic syndrome.
