Drug shortages in Chile: An underestimated and potentially preventable reality

Daisy Miranda Capetanópulos is a Chilean hospital pharmacist (BPharm/Químico Farmacéutico) with a professional focus on hospital pharmacy and clinical nutrition, particularly parenteral nutrition (PN) as a high-risk therapy. She works in the Pharmacy Service at Hospital Dr. Luis Calvo Mackenna (Santiago, Chile), contributing to the safe preparation, monitoring, and clinical management of PN and other specialized compounded therapies. She holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition Sciences (Pediatric Clinical Nutrition track) and has contributed to educational and pharmacovigilance-oriented materials on PN from the Chilean public health context. Her academic output includes peer-reviewed publications addressing PN in neonatology and pediatrics—covering physicochemical stability, risks, and precautions—as well as quality and safety initiatives related to PN prescribing and clinical workflows
