Abstract

Allergic diseases represent an heterogeneous group of diseases related to Type I hipersensitivity reaction. Mechanisms involved in this IgE-mediated immune response includes polarized Th2 CD4 cells, cytokines, antigen specific B cells, mastocytes and basophiles. During recent years, an increase in the incidence of allergic diseases has been observed in occidental countries. The objective of the present article is to expose the recommendations of the international experts committees on allergic diseases, proposing a revised nomenclature for hypersensitivity, based on the presence of immune mechanism and IgE mediated response.
