Paedriatric HIV infection

Abstract

The first cases of post-transfusional AIDS in Chilean children were diagnosed in 1987 and in 1989 the first cases of perinatal AIDS were documented. The Paedriatric AIDS Commitee of the Chilean Paedriatric Society, maintains since 1990, a national network of information evaluating epidemiological, clinical and laboratory factors and establishes guidelines in the treatment of these patients. This arrice reviews the most relevant aspects of epidemiology, perinatal terapeutic measures, tests necesary for the diagnosis, clinical presentations and treatment of the infected child with special emphasis on the national situation.
